How Are They Shaping Up?

Arsene Wenger’s side may have lost 3-1 at home to Manchester United last weekend but they played well and were unlucky to suffer what was only their third defeat in twelve league outings, with the Gunners winning eight and drawing one in that time.

The North London outfit don’t always travel well and their record on the road in the league since the start of last season reads: won eleven, drew three, lost eleven.

They do tend to enjoy visiting St Mary’s though as they won 5-0 and 2-0 there in league and cup visits last term, with Betfred going 20/21 about an away win on Sunday.

Indeed, Southampton are hardly pulling up any trees on home soil as they have won just nine times in front of their own fans since the start of the 2016/17 campaign and there has been no marked improvement since Mauricio Pellegrino was appointed manager in the summer.

Recent Form

The Saints have failed to score in five of their nine home games in all competitions this season and their recent form is a major cause for concern.

They are sitting in mid-table following a run of two wins in ten matches (drawn three, lost five) and we fancy they will struggle against an Arsenal side that does tend to enjoy the slick surface at St Mary’s.

Arsenal to win with a -1 goal handicap can be backed at 13/5 (Betfair) and we fancy Alexandre Lacazette to set them on their way to victory.

Lacazette has scored eight goals in his first season in the Premier League and he is 4/1 favourite to be first goalscorer (Paddy Power) on Sunday.
